There are three different types of eye
exams; a comprehensive eye exam, a routine eye exam and a contact lens exam.
Depending upon your last exam, age, background, family history and vision needs
an optometrist will decide which eye exam is suitable for you.

What does a full eye exam include?
The test begins with a series of questions about your medical, family history, and eye health. The optometrist may also perform some of the following tests depending upon your vision needs: like Glaucoma test, Eye muscle test, Contracts, Visual acuity, Myopia, Explanation Trigonometry, Corneal Topography, Refraction assessment, Color vision testing, Dilated Pupillary Exam, Slit-Lamp Exam, and Retina exam. At the end of the exam, the doctor will provide you with a prescription or eyewear if needed.
How do eye doctors know if you need glasses?
An optometrist may run a different test to determine your vision strength depending upon your age, history, and vision needs. The optometrists can use a phoropter to put diverse power lenses before your eyes to see which lens gives you the clearest vision and will prescribe your eyewear. Or he can also use numbing drops to dilate your eyes and use a tool called an ophthalmologist to see the back of your eyes to determine your vision strength.
How long does eye exam take?
Eye exams vary in length depending upon vision needs. Sometimes it completes in 15 minutes and sometimes it takes an hour to complete. The complexity of the test depends upon age, patient history (accident or surgery, etc ), and family history.
